Wedding Dress Shopping for the First Time: How to Make It a Relaxing and Calm Experience
10/07/2024
Back to blogYour wedding day is one of the most memorable moments in your life, and finding the perfect dress is a big part of that journey. However, wedding dress shopping for the first time can be overwhelming. To ensure the experience is as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, here are some tips and advice from our lovely Stylists Siobhan and Elizabeth!
1. Start Your Search Early
Begin your search about 9 to 12 months before your wedding date. This allows plenty of time for browsing, fittings, and alterations without feeling rushed. Allow yourself space and time to make the right decision. We love to have your order confirmed 8-10months before your wedding date.
2. Set a Budget
Determine a budget before you begin shopping. Consider the dress, accessories, and alterations. Communicate your budget to us when you book your fitting so we can best guide you when you come into our showroom. Our designs sit between £2,000-£5,000 and our Bespoke Service starts from £5,000
3. Do Your Research
Browse bridal magazines, websites, and social media for styles that catch your eye. Save images of dresses you love and note the designs or feature down. Having an idea of what you like is a great place to start but don’t worry, we will always throw some curve balls your way!
4. Choose the Right Guests
Limit your shopping entourage to 1-3 trusted friends or family members. Too many opinions can be confusing and stressful. Choose people who understand your style and will offer supportive, honest feedback.
5. Dress Comfortably
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes to your appointments, and bring any undergarments and heels you plan to wear on your wedding day. This helps you get a realistic feel of how the dress will look and feel.
6. Keep an Open Mind
While it's great to have a vision, be open to trying different styles. Many brides end up choosing a dress that's different from what they initially imagined. It’s also helpful for ruling out styles and pinpointing your favourite design details.
7. Focus on the Experience
Remember that this is a special moment in your wedding journey. Focus on the experience rather than just the outcome. Enjoy the process of finding a dress that makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
12. Celebrate Your Choice
Once you've found your dress, appreciate the moment! Take photos, share the news with close ones, and celebrate taking a significant step toward your big day.
Wedding dress shopping should be a joyful and memorable experience. By planning ahead, setting realistic expectations, and keeping a positive attitude, you can make the process smooth and enjoyable. Remember, the perfect dress is one that makes you feel confident, like yourself, and ready to walk down the aisle!
